Library Director

The Red Bank Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a talented professional librarian to serve as Library Director. Red Bank is home to 12,205 residents within two square miles in central New Jersey’s Monmouth County. It is a diverse community with a strong commitment to education, the arts, culture, and local history. The Director must be hands-on, working with the staff of 4 full-time and 11 part-time employees. This is a full-time position requiring day, evening and weekend hours. The 2018 municipal appropriation was just under $730,000.

Qualifications:

A MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited school and a New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate are necessary. Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) years library experience, two of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity in a public library.

Applicant should have exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills and an ability to supervise and motivate library staff and volunteers; the ability to work with library Trustees, elected officials, and community groups; demonstrated continued education in the areas of library services and technology with active participation in professional library associations and community organizations a plus.

Part Time Reference & Adult Services Librarian

The right candidate would join a team of library professionals at the Red Bank Public Library providing exemplary service to the community of Red Bank. Reference services, computer training, web site and social media initiatives would be in the purview of this job. Local History work is a possibility. Candidates would be required to work about 12 hours every week. The schedule may include an evening and every Saturday.

Qualifications

A MLIS degree along with a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate is preferred, but candidates currently enrolled in a Master’s program leading to a MLIS degree will also be considered. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus. Experience with archives and preservation highly desirable. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher, new technologies and social media in libraries is required. Must be able to shelve books and lift up to 30 pounds. A team player, a sense of humor and an ability to embrace new challenges would set this candidate apart. This position will provide opportunities to experience many areas within the library and will be an excellent position to provide entry level librarian experience.

Library Page/Shelver

The Red Bank Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, detail-oriented individual to work in our Library. The qualified candidate should have an interest in libraries, be organized and self-motivated.

Duties include shelving library materials, straightening shelves, shifting library materials, and helping with other jobs as assigned. The candidate should possess proficient computer skills that include the knowledge of Microsoft Office, email, Internet and multimedia. Good communication and organizational skills and a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service are essential.

This position will be part-time with a fixed schedule that will include afternoons, evenings and some Saturdays. Requires the ability to accurately sort materials alphabetically, numerically and chronologically. Must be able to bend, reach and lift up to 50 lbs. to perform the physical tasks for the position.  Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification System and prior experience working in a library preferred but training will be provided.
